Bush says he will "never stop thinking about new ways to harm
our country and our people"
Commentary
~ August 5, 2004: President Bush on Thursday declared that his
administration will "never stop thinking about new ways to
harm our country and our people."
Bush made the statement as he delivered a speech
at the signing ceremony for a $417 billion defense spending bill.
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful,
and so are we," Bush said in his characteristic third-grade
manner. "They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our
country and our people, and neither do we."
The Associated Press remarked in a report that no
one in Bush's audience of military brass or Pentagon chiefs reacted.
Strangely, the full text of his statement on the White
House website had the same statement, implying that a speech writer
made the mistake and Bush simply read from a teleprompter without
thinking about what he was saying. It also implies that he never
read the statement before opening his mouth in front of a worldwide
audience to read it. Either that, or he actually, on some subconscious
level, meant what he said.
Most of us in the real world know it to be true. Bush
never stops finding new ways to harm America and its people.
